New Circular Economy Business Model for More Sustainable Urban Construction

Hempstatic — Hempcrete biocomposite acoustic panels

Hempstatic produces Hempstatic® Sound Absorbers, hempcrete biocomposite panels for interior acoustic and insulation applications. The composite combines hemp shives (agricultural by-product) with a lime-based binder, with no toxic additives or synthetic compounds, and is designed for a non-hazardous end-of-life scenario. Independent testing confirms fire classification B-s1, d0 (EN 13501-1), very low TVOC and formaldehyde emissions well below EN 16516 and WHO indoor air quality guidelines, vapour permeability supporting moisture regulation, and approximately 94% lower global warming potential compared with a polyurethane insulation benchmark. Panels were installed and pilot-tested at NIGRAD Dogoše near Maribor (Slovenia) over 14 m² across two rooms, reducing reverberation time by 0.5 seconds at 500 Hz in both cases. CRL 3, TRL 4, BRL 3: technical performance is well-validated, certification is expected for 2027, and the commercial expansion path is in early stage.
