New Circular Economy Business Model for More Sustainable Urban Construction

Blokje opnieuw in Hengelo

Since circular building is still in its infancy, it is necessary to change this and discover how circular building can be applied. The concept Blokje om, applied in Oldenzaal, by Dura Vermeer has been the starting point and supplemented with circular materials as concept Blokje Opnieuw.

Design was based on the six S en model (Site, Structure, Skin, Services, Space and Stuff). Beforehand, after thorough analysis, it was determined what the starting points are and what is desirable. The principle of the concept block again is that the new home is placed on the foundation of the existing home and the residents have the opportunity to return to new home on the old site and circular materials are used. The residents return at housing cost neutral (rent and energy). The home is manufactured in the factory and assembled on site in a few days. From demolition to new construction has a lead time of no more than two months. The existing old houses are inventoried based on the materials to be used and/or recycled. These materials cannot be used in the new homes to be installed, but can be applied later within other projects.
