New Circular Economy Business Model for More Sustainable Urban Construction

Coal fly ash

Coal fly ash is a by-product in the Electricity and Heat production plant Ljubljana (Slovenia), in short
TE-TOL, which is managed by the company ENERGETIKA Ljubljana. It generates during the
combustion of a medium grade Indonesian coal in a cogeneration boiler in a summer combustion
regime, which is active from October till the end of April and is collected from air pollution control
filters (bag filters, electrostatic precipitators).

Heavy fraction will be mixed with the coal fly ash (MAR-SRM-2: Coal ash) in a dry mass ratio of 40 wt.
% of heavy fraction and 60 wt. % of coal fly ash, which is optimal for efficient immobilisation of
potentially toxic substances. The dry mass ratio was determined within a preliminary laboratory
investigation.
