New Circular Economy Business Model for More Sustainable Urban Construction

Inspiring mining project by Rouwmaat Groep

The Rouwmaat Group professionally cleared the former Oldenhuis furniture factory in Groenlo of all buildings and paving. At this location, a sustainable new housing development consisting of 40 homes will be built.

Through years of experience in various demolition projects, Rouwmaat Groep was able to dismantle a significant part of the released materials and elements in such a way that they remained suitable for reuse. In line with this sustainable new building plan, Rouwmaat Groep spent a lot of time finding local outlets for the many reusable materials:

The freed-up Frisomat hall was expertly dismantled and rebuilt for the Stadsmijn Achterhoek at business park the Laarberg;
Some of the released wooden planks were reused as sheet material for the new construction of a nearby company on industrial estate de Laarberg;
Several roller doors, steel profiles, window frames and a large part of the wooden beams were used in the restoration of the Venemansmolen in Winterswijk;
All undamaged released stelcon plates were sold again as second-chance stelcon plates;
Excess released concrete rubble was processed into concrete granulate on site at Rouwmaat in Groenlo and then reapplied as a gravel substitute in concrete mortar.

The concrete mortar will be used for the foundation of the homes to be built. The harvest yield from the Oldenhuis site will serve as seed for new projects in the surrounding area. Rouwmaat just takes care of it!
